About the Party

Democracy for the Citizens Party is a national movement born from the collective call of Kenyans for inclusive, accountable leadership.

Our Story

Leadership earned by listening, not asserted from above.

DCP was formed by Kenyans who had grown tired of a national conversation that flowed in only one direction. Across counties, communities were raising the same concerns — unequal access to resources, opportunity concentrated in few hands, and decisions made far from the people they affect.

Our answer was to build a party whose structures make listening compulsory rather than optional. Ward and constituency committees feed directly into county assemblies and the National Executive Council. Our nomination process is published, auditable, and open to appeal by any aspirant who believes it has failed them.

“Skiza Wakenya is not a campaign line. It is a description of how this party is required to make decisions.”

We describe ourselves as a social democratic party. In practice that means we believe the state has an active duty to distribute resources fairly and protect the vulnerable, while creating the conditions in which enterprise, innovation and individual ambition can thrive. These are not competing goals — a country that educates and treats its people well is a country where business grows.

From a founding presence in a handful of counties, DCP is now organised in all 47, with a membership register that has crossed 900,000 Kenyans.

What We Stand For

Mission & vision

Our Mission

To offer leadership that prioritises the equitable distribution of resources, protects the rights of all Kenyans, and ensures the benefits of economic growth reach every citizen through accountable and inclusive governance.

Our Vision

A Kenya in which all citizens access equal resources and opportunities, where social democratic principles drive economic prosperity alongside fairness, dignity and inclusion — in every county, not only the well-connected ones.

Our Foundation

Rooted in the Constitution of Kenya, 2010

Our platform is not invented from scratch. It is a commitment to implement what Kenyans already agreed upon — and have been waiting to see honoured.

Chapter Four

The Bill of Rights — the dignity, freedoms and entitlements guaranteed to every Kenyan without exception.

Article 10

National values of inclusiveness, equity, social justice and non-discrimination in public decision-making.

Closing the Gap

Kenya's Gini coefficient of 0.428 reflects an inequality this party is organised specifically to reduce.

Core Values

The principles behind Skiza Wakenya

Four commitments that govern how the party organises, nominates and governs.

01

Listening

Policy is shaped through county forums, town halls and open member ballots — not drafted in a boardroom and announced to the public afterwards.

02

Equity

Resources and opportunity shared deliberately across every region, with particular attention to counties that successive governments have left behind.

03

Inclusion

Every county, community and generation represented — with reserved pathways for youth, women and persons with disabilities in party structures.

04

Accountability

Leaders answerable to members between elections, party finances declared annually, and a nomination process that any aspirant may formally challenge.

Party Structure

How a decision travels through DCP

Five levels, each accountable to the one below it. The structure exists so that the people closest to a problem have a real say in solving it.

Level 1

Ward Committees

The closest structure to citizens, where local concerns are first raised, debated and formally recorded.

Level 2

Constituency Councils

Coordinate the ward committees within a constituency and carry their positions to county level.

Level 3

County Executive Committees

Drive county-wide strategy, membership growth, and readiness for nominations and elections.

Level 4

National Executive Council

Sets national direction, approves policy positions, and oversees the party secretariat between conferences.

Supreme

National Delegates Conference

The party's highest organ — elects national officials and adopts or amends the party constitution.
